This hybrid online course covers the topics from the first semester of AP Biology and is fully aligned with the College Board AP course requirements. The hybrid structure means that students also get weekly 45-minute Zoom office hour sessions with the instructor, in addition to the full online course with over 50 engaging video lessons, plenty of practice problems, and organized class resources.
This course will boost students’ performance in AP Biology class at school, keep them engaged, and prepare them well for the AP exam in May. It is also designed to be self-sufficient for AP preparation (even without taking the course at school), as long as students complete all required assignments and assessments.
The topics covered in semester 1 include chemistry, macromolecules, cells, cellular energetics, cell communication and division, genetics, and biotechnology.
Course Structure:
This is a self-paced course, so students can join anytime throughout the year. This also means that you have the freedom to skip chapters, spend a longer or shorter time on a particular topic, and use this flexibility to suit your needs. You will have access to all sessions upon enrollment.
Because this course is online, it is also designed to be as interactive as possible, emphasizing social learning and active learning. Throughout the course, there are review questions embedded in video lessons, open student discussion forums, and assignment galleries where students can comment, discuss, and learn together. To encourage student engagement, participation contributes to your overall performance in the class. Remember that the more you put into the course, the more you will get from it!
