This course presents five sessions in which the student continues to learn piano technique and repertoire through use of the C and G Major scales and primary chords. Each session contains a video lecture presented by the Instructor, piano practice assignments and graded assignments that include a quiz about music terms, theory and/or ear training, and a video assessment of the student playing selected piano technique and repertoire. The course also includes a graded assignment for two concert reviews, which can be completed at any time during the course. After the completing the five sessions, the student will complete a final exam by performing a memorized piece of music and a piece learned by ear (Instructor’s Choice) for an audience. The memorized piece will be the student’s choice from Sessions 4 or 5 in this course, and must be digitally recorded and uploaded as an additional video assessment. Each session contains a video lecture presented by the Instructor, piano practice assignments, and graded assignments that include a quiz about music terms, theory and/or ear training, and a video submitted by the student of playing selected piano technique and repertoire. The course also includes a graded assignment for a concert review and report, which can be completed at any time during the course. After the competing the five sessions, the student will complete a final exam by performing a memorized piece of music for an audience. This piece will be the student’s choice from Sessions 4 or 5 in this course and must be digitally recorded and uploaded to YouTube with a link provided in the course website.

Below you will find an overview of the Learning Outcomes you will achieve as you complete this course.
Learn and perform Course 3 repertoire assignments, demonstrating understanding of proper hand position and fingering, articulations, dynamics, phrasing and pedaling.
Perform Course 3 piano technique exercises, including major and minor 5-finger patterns, selected major scales, hand-over-hand major and minor arpeggios and the I-IV-I-V7-I and i-iv-i-V7-i chord progressions in selected major and minor keys.
Music-Reading & Theory
Demonstrate an understanding of Course 3 music theory and music-reading skills through sight-reading, transposition, improvisation and harmonization.

Described as “impressive and expressive” (Fanfare Magazine) and “superb...[with] great dexterity, rhythm, and touch” (American Record Guide), Hannah Creviston is Assistant Professor of Practice at Arizona State University, where she oversees the Piano Pedagogy program, coordinates Class Piano and is Director of the Music Prep Program. She is active as a researcher and presenter on the effects of music on children with autism.
Prior to joining the ASU faculty in the fall of 2012, Creviston was on the faculty at the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam. An avid performer of contemporary music, Creviston has premiered many compositions, both solo and collaborative. As an accompanist, she has performed in festivals and competitions around the world, and she performs regularly in a duo with her husband, saxophonist Christopher Creviston. Together, they have recorded Snell Sessions and Columbia Sessions, both on the Albany Records label, and Sunday Afternoon and Breaking available through CD Baby. Their recordings have been described as “engrossing” (Fanfare Magazine), “highly imaginative and expressive” (composer Denis Bédard), “a good blend of the standard and the new” (American Record Guide), and “sensitive, transparent, powerful music making that causes one to hold their breath often” (Donald Sinta).
