Course Description

This course is for beginners who wish to learn the guitar, and will get you up to speed to play music very quickly. The course covers all the fundamentals of guitar playing such as organisation of the fretboard, correct technique, finger exercises, scales, chords and practical application of these to play popular songs.

Session 1: Introduction to the Guitar (April 17, 2024)
In this lesson you will learn about the different parts of the guitar, how to hold the guitar and how to play with correct posture and technique. You will also learn how to play the intro and verse chords of a popular song and finally, the lesson will end with a finger exercise to improve your mobility on the fretboard.

Session 2: Notes on the Fretboard (April 24, 2024)
In this lesson, you will learn about the different notes on the guitar and the concept of a tone and a semi-tone. You will also learn the chords of the bridge and soft-chorus of the song learnt in the previous lesson.

In this lesson, you will learn about the different note values in music. You will also learn how to play open chords on the guitar, using the CAGED system.

In this lesson, you will learn how to play the C major scale and how to read notes of the open strings of the guitar.

In this lesson, you will learn how to form a major scale on the guitar and play the C major scale using 8th notes. You will also learn to sight read in C major open position.

Session 7: Song Performance Study - 2 (May 29, 2024)
In this lesson, you will learn the chorus chords of Yellow by Coldplay . You will also work on sight reading an 8 bars long melody in the key of C major. You will additionally work on practising the C major scale and the chromatic scale at a faster tempo.
